Ms. Candelle Walcott-Bostwick, Executive Director, Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS)Ms. Candelle Walcott-Bostwick, Executive Director, Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) has a BSc in Biochemistry, an Associate Degree in Pharmacy, an ICM Diploma in Human Resource Management, a RABQSA Certified QMS Auditor, a member of the CROSQ Council, a member of ASQ and currently reading her MBA in Leadership and Development, started her career as a Production Chemist, Warehouse Chemist then Quality Control Chemist at the then Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation now called ‘The New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation’ which lasted a duration of approximately four years.
Ms. Walcott- Bostwick, a young and enthusiastic professional started her career at the GNBS as a Technical Officer I on October 01, 2000 with responsibility for the Laboratory Licensing Programme at the GNBS where she developed a passion for promoting quality through the delivery of numerous training programmes and coaching sessions with laboratories across Guyana. The Laboratory Licensing Programme has evolved into the Laboratory Certification Programme which provides recognition to local laboratories which have demonstrated commitment towards implementing the requirements of the national standard GYS 170’ General requirements for the operation of a laboratory’.
She has a wealth of training experience in the areas of quality, environment, food safety, laboratory and laboratory safety management systems. She is also a qualified management systems trainer and laboratory assessor.
Due to her professionalism and outstanding contributions to the GNBS in 2004, she was appointed the Coordinator then Head of the Laboratory Services Department before her appointment as Head Conformity Assessment Department in 2006 still holding responsibility for laboratories in Guyana. In her tenure as Head Conformity Assessment she has strengthened the services offered in the department which focuses on providing business support services to local companies. She was instrumental in the development of capabilities of the Department which now provides essential services such as Training, Auditing, Certification and Consultancy Services. She was appointed the National Accreditation Focal Point for Guyana, a portfolio which has seen the first two laboratories in Guyana accredited to international standards through the Caribbean Cooperation for Accreditation Scheme.
As the Executive Director of the GNBS her vision is to firstly build a cadre of professionals who will be motivated to change the quality culture in Guyana using leadership, innovation and professionalism. The GNBS must be recognized as the leader in National Development as it promotes the implementation of a recognised National Quality Infrastructure.
